When we think of summer, we think of melons, and there’s no one who grows them better than Alex Weiser of Weiser Family Farms. If you’re a regular at the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market, you’ve undoubtedly run into Alex with his signature straw hat and smile. His family’s farm has been an institution in Southern California going back to the late 1970s, with a focus on biodiversity and sustainable farming techniques. In 2015, Alex and Sherry Mandell founded the Tehachapi Grain Project, a movement to bring back a variety of non-GMO, heirloom grains for chefs, bakers, home cooks and brewers, while restoring our state’s rich, grain-growing heritage. This vegetarian tasting menu will feature winter vegetables that have been fermenting for months and beautiful melons from Weiser, along with heirloom grains from the Tehachapi Grain Project.
